Payments, Taxes & Billing

1.Accepted payment methods

• Credit and debit cards — Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover — processed through our commerce platform, Shopify.
• Any digital wallet offered at checkout (for example Shop Pay, Apple Pay, or Google Pay). A wallet charges the card you have saved with that provider.
• ALIST store credit and gift cards.

The methods available to you are shown at checkout and may vary by order value, shipping destination, and risk assessment. We do not currently offer buy now, pay later financing, and we do not accept cash, checks, money orders, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.

The name and billing address you provide must match the records held by your card issuer. Orders that fail address or card verification may be held or cancelled.

2.Currency and pricing

All prices are listed and charged in U.S. dollars. If your payment method is denominated in another currency, your issuer sets the exchange rate and may charge a foreign transaction fee; those amounts are between you and your issuer.

Prices exclude shipping and applicable taxes, which are calculated and shown before you submit your order. Prices may change at any time before an order is placed. If an item was listed at an obviously incorrect price, we may cancel the order before shipment and refund you in full rather than charge the corrected price.

3.Authorization, capture, and declines

• When you submit an order, your payment method is authorized for the order total. An authorization is a hold, not a charge.
• We capture funds when the order ships. For orders paid with a digital wallet, capture timing follows that provider's rules.
• If an order is cancelled before shipment, we release the authorization. Depending on your issuer, the hold may take up to 10 business days to disappear from your statement. We have no control over that timing.
• If an authorization expires before dispatch — for example while an order is held for verification — we may re-authorize your payment method. You may briefly see more than one pending amount; only one is captured.
• A declined payment does not reserve the item. Because inventory is one of a kind, an item may sell to another buyer while a payment issue is being resolved.

4.Order verification and fraud prevention

We screen orders for fraud using address verification, card security codes, 3-D Secure where supported, and risk signals from our payment and fraud providers. We may ask you to confirm your identity or your ownership of the payment method before we ship, and we may cancel and refund an order we cannot verify. This protects you and our consignors.

5.Sales tax

Sales tax is calculated on the order subtotal and, where the state requires it, on shipping, based on the destination address and the applicable rates in effect at the time of the order. The exact amount is shown before you submit your order.

Where an item is sold on consignment, ALIST is the seller of record and collects and remits the tax due. Where an item is offered by a third-party seller through the Services and marketplace facilitator rules apply, ALIST collects and remits the tax as the marketplace facilitator.

Tax-exempt buyers must submit a valid exemption certificate to camilla@alistarchive.com and receive confirmation before placing an order. We cannot refund tax on an order that was already placed without an approved exemption on file.

6.Store credit and gift cards

• ALIST store credit issued with a return is applied to your account, may be used only on the Services, is not transferable, and expires 12 months after issuance unless applicable state law requires a longer period.
• Gift cards do not expire and are not subject to dormancy or inactivity fees. Gift cards are not redeemable for cash except where state law requires redemption of a small remaining balance in cash.
• Store credit and gift cards are applied before your other payment method. Where the order total exceeds the balance, the remainder is charged to your payment method.
• Lost or stolen gift card codes cannot be replaced. Treat a code like cash.
• We may void credit or a gift card obtained through fraud, error, or a reversed payment.

7.Recurring charges and automatic renewal

If you enroll in a paid membership or any other recurring plan, we disclose the price, billing interval, and renewal date before you enroll and send a confirmation afterwards. The plan renews automatically at the then-current price until you cancel. You may cancel at any time through your account or by emailing camilla@alistarchive.com, using the same method you used to enroll, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Where a state requires advance notice of a renewal or of a price change, we will send it.

8.Billing questions and disputes

If a charge looks wrong, email camilla@alistarchive.com with your order number before contacting your bank. Most billing questions — duplicate authorizations, tax amounts, partial refunds — are resolved the same day. Filing a chargeback while a return or claim is open may delay resolution, and we respond to disputes with the complete order, delivery, and inspection record.

9.Payment security

Card payments are processed by Shopify, a PCI DSS compliant provider, over encrypted connections. We receive only the card type, the last four digits, and an authorization result — never the full card number or security code. How we handle the transaction data we do receive is described in the Privacy Policy.
