1.The guarantee
ALIST warrants that each item sold through the Services is authentic — that it was made by the brand identified in the listing. If we determine that an item is not authentic, we will refund the full purchase price, applicable taxes, and shipping paid, and we will pay for return shipping.
The guarantee runs to the original buyer and is not transferable. It does not cover items acquired from anyone other than us, items that have been altered, repaired, refinished, or serviced after delivery, or claims that go to condition or fit rather than authenticity.
2.How we authenticate
Each item is examined by trained specialists before listing. Depending on category, that review considers:
- construction, stitching, edge finishing, lining, and interior structure;
- hardware weight, finish, engraving, and mechanism;
- materials, grain, weave, and treatment;
- logos, fonts, alignment, and placement;
- date codes, serial numbers, heat stamps, and interior tags, checked for internal consistency;
- accompanying accessories, boxes, and documentation, where supplied; and
- provenance information provided by the consignor.
Items we cannot authenticate to our satisfaction are rejected and returned to the consignor. We do not list an item to "see what happens", and we do not rely on a certificate supplied by a consignor as a substitute for our own examination.
ALIST is independent. We are not affiliated with, authorized by, or endorsed by any brand whose goods we sell, and our assessment is our own opinion, formed by experienced specialists. It is not an appraisal, a valuation, or a statement by the brand.
3.Digital certificate of authenticity
Selected items are issued a digital certificate that records the item's identifiers, our authentication findings, and supporting photographs and documents, with a verification reference published to a public blockchain so that the record can be checked independently.
- The certificate is a record of our authentication work at a point in time. It is not an appraisal, a security, or a promise of future value.
- We publish only item and certificate identifiers on-chain. No personal information about you is published.
- On-chain records are permanent and cannot be edited or deleted by us or by anyone else.
- If we correct or withdraw a certificate, the corrected record and the reason are added to the certificate history.
4.Condition grades
Every item is pre-owned unless the listing states otherwise, and is sold in the condition described. Grades describe the item as a whole; the listing text and photographs describe specific characteristics.
- New with tags
- Unworn and unused, with the original brand tags still attached. May show minor shelf wear from storage.
- Pristine
- Unworn or worn once, without original tags. No visible signs of use under normal inspection.
- Excellent
- Gently used. Very light signs of wear that are not noticeable when the item is worn or carried, such as faint corner rub or minimal hardware marks.
- Very good
- Used with visible but moderate signs of wear, such as light scuffing, softening of leather, or minor marks on the interior. Structurally sound.
- Good
- Regularly used, with clear signs of wear such as scuffs, edge wear, patina, small stains, or hardware tarnish, all disclosed and photographed. Fully wearable.
- Fair
- Heavily used or with a specific flaw that materially affects appearance, such as a repair, replaced part, missing accessory, or deep mark. Sold at a corresponding price and always described in detail.
Vintage and archival pieces are graded against what is realistic for their age. Patina, oxidation, softening, and light odor of storage are expected characteristics of older goods, not defects.
5.Measurements, images, and disclosure limits
- Photographs are of the actual item unless the listing says otherwise. Color and texture can render differently across screens and lighting.
- Measurements are taken by hand and are approximate, with a normal tolerance of up to half an inch.
- Labeled sizes reflect the size printed on the item, which can differ from the brand's current sizing and from other brands. Where we can, we note the closest modern equivalent as guidance only.
- We describe the condition characteristics identified by our specialists. Minor wear consistent with the stated grade may not be individually listed.
- Where an item has been repaired, restored, or has a non-original component, we disclose it in the listing.
- Accompanying boxes, dust bags, authenticity cards, and receipts are included only when the listing says so. A missing box or card does not affect authenticity.
6.Materials policy
ALIST applies a materials policy that is stricter than U.S. law requires. We do not accept or sell items containing real animal fur, ivory of any species, tortoiseshell, or any material from a species listed in CITES Appendix I. Exotic leathers are accepted only where lawful provenance and any required documentation can be verified, and they may be excluded from international shipping or from delivery to states that restrict their sale.
If you believe an item on our site conflicts with this policy, tell us at camilla@alistarchive.com and we will remove it while we investigate.
7.Submitting an authenticity claim
- Email camilla@alistarchive.com within 30 days of delivery with your order number and a clear explanation of your concern.
- Include detailed photographs of the areas you are questioning, including logos, stamps, date codes, hardware, and stitching.
- Provide a written opinion from a qualified independent authenticator or from the brand, on their letterhead or through their documented process, identifying the item and the basis for the opinion. We will reimburse the reasonable cost of that opinion if your claim is upheld.
- Keep the item in the condition in which it was delivered, with all tags and accessories, and do not send it to us until we ask.
We acknowledge claims within 2 business days and aim to complete our review within 10 business days of receiving the item and the supporting opinion. If your claim is upheld, we refund you in full to your original payment method and pay return shipping. If it is not upheld, we will explain our reasoning in writing and return the item to you at our cost, and your standard return rights, if still open, remain available.
8.No valuation or investment advice
Editorial content on the Services may discuss rarity, collectibility, and how certain pieces have held value. That is background information, not advice. ALIST does not appraise items for insurance or resale, does not guarantee that any item will hold or increase in value, and does not offer any item, certificate, or membership as an investment.
